Founder and co-director INSTAR
Nick's work reflects his lifetime passion for the natural world and this thread can be identified across his visual art, sonic works, moving image and creative writing. In his earlier creative practice a focus on street stencil graffiti gave him a limitless platform to showcase his provocative work and more recently he has evolved his practice to painting on canvas and line drawing. His works are ambitious, and his actual size series of illustrations draw the viewer into the intense detail and complexities of form and pattern.
His visual art also bridges graphic and poster design, and he has produced multiple one off designs with his distinctive cut and paste style, retaining his connection to the physical art work and originality of each design and influence of street art. The synergy between his street art and poster design brought him into contact with multiple artists, and resulted in collaborations with a wide range of street based artists, included internationally renowned New York street art collective FAILE.
As a professional musician, Nick has worked with performing artists as a percussionist, DJ, event technician and stage manager. He has toured the UK with bands Crunch Bird and Old Basford and toured with singer songwriters. His love for the written word continues, writing lyrics (Anomic Soul) and interpreting natural history, through guest writing and commissions.
Recently Nick has combined his professional music and multi-media work and delved into moving image, with his debut film SKYLARKS launched in 2018 at Broadway Cinema. This film included an original score of 12 tracks, written and performed by Nick.
Graduating in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University, since 2013 he has collaborated with artist Trish Evans and is the co-founder of INSTAR.
